Trail Martial Arts Ltd

I received my blackbelt in TaeKwon-Do in 2008 under Master Dan Zaleski from Kelowna BC. We moved to Trail BC and discovered there were no TaeKwon-Do schools in the area. This was both disappointing and exciting. There was an opportunity to build a business and to continue my martial arts training.

I started teaching through Parks & Recreation in January of 2009, Teaching classes on the gym floor of the Cominco Arena. I approached the owner of a vacant building and made an offer to lease the building. I secured the lease and started renovating the building to suit my needs for a martial arts school.

In March of 2009, I opened the doors for our first classes teaching TaeKwon-Do in Trail. By the end of March, we had secured enough students to break even on the business, by 2010 we were making enough for me to quit selling Real Estate.

September of 2010 I took a team of competitors to the TaeKwon-Do world championships in Telford England. I competed in the Heavy Weight division and got eliminated in the first round. This experience taught me a lot about what I needed to do to compete at a world championships level.

July of 2013 I took a team of competitors to the TaeKwon-Do world championships in Coventry England. I competed in the Heavy Weight division and placed 8th in the world. My Training partner Jon Zaleski took the World Title. I also had 2 other students place 3rd in their respective divisions.

2014 I joined an elite business Mastermind Group run by Michael Parrella out of Long Island New York. Over the next 2 years I invest thousands of dollars in education on Marketing, Business Strategy, Hiring, Staff Training, and more. With the help of this program and a lot of hard work I transformed the small business that depended on me for every level, to a business that could operate completely independently. We went from a $100,000/year business to $300,000/year over the next four years.

2015 we moved locations of the martial arts school to accommodate our growing student base. I carefully designed the space to give a professional franchise feel while still being welcoming and a great place to train.

2017 I opened a second Location in Castlegar BC. Within 3 months of opening we were profitable and running independently. I spent about an hour per week with the second location staff.

December of 2019 I make the decision to change careers and sell the Martial Arts Schools. They were both profitable and running very well. I had multiple buyers to work with and struck a deal by the middle of January. The deal closed on January 31st 2020.
